The gearbox is the "F" (8L) type, and 3rd speed is "constant mesh", and not synchronised.
Selection of 3rd / 4th speeds is by sliding dogs.
Noting a failed bearing in the original, the 1st,2nd and 3rd motion shafts sport no less than 12 ball races.
I see that there is a newly published £20.00 book on Skinners Union. |

Thanks for the heads-up, John. A lovely old thing with wonderful patination (the car, I hasten to add).
When driving with the F box, you pull straight through from 3rd to top without pausing. Otherwise it's the usual carry-on and if you get it wrong it gives your arm a good shaking. All part of the fun!

BS box is also straight through from 3rd to top. With a reasonable amount of clutch stop, it is as fast as you can when cold, stop in neutral but don't pause when warm. Mind you, you could go and make a cup of tea while in neutral if changing between 1st and 2nd at anything over about 1000 rpm. |

Did anyone else spot the other inaccuracies in the advertisement.
"Heads up" "Skaking" "Lunched", what has happened to plain speaking. The English Language is polluted, "deffo". |

Well, I think that the 3ltr carried on after 1927, and did the 4ltr have a cable opperated hand brake or an overhead camshaft? (oise) |

Look again. The 4 litre has a block mounted camshaft. |
