I have a wax type thermostat ( as opposed to the alcohol filled bellows type).
On inspection I found trace evidence of wax leakage and hence it has to be scrapped.....Or does it?
Has anyone out there attempted to replace the wax capsule with one cannibalised from a readily available modern component?
It looks to me that the thermostat can be disassembled so if I can find a suitable donor wax capsule in terms of temperature rating and dimensions then what is wrong with at least having a go?
The replacement cost is coming in at a minimum cost of £250 - hence my tentative investigation into any possibilities.
Many thanks for your assistance in keeping my old girl on the road.
As yo may have guessed I am currently running her without a thermostat - which I'm not keen on doing indefinitly.

Addition 22.7.2018
QTH325 is the part number of a Thermostat - I think from a ford of somekind.
I accquired a new one of these and cannabalised it for the wax capsule and pin.
I drilled out the Bentley harness carrying the return spring
Then I took out the existing pin by simply unscrewing
Then I lighly chamfered the pin in the ford wax capsule so that it seated nicely into the housing.
For the time being I just used small allen bolts to hold the sprung harness to the body - but I have some nice copper rivets on order.
Hey Presto !
It works !
Now for the downside - This particular thermostat opens at 86 degrees celcius. Thats too high and should be at 78 for summer use.
So I am now on the hunt for the same part but with a lower rating
At least I have proved that this can be done.
Any comments on running the engine at this 8 degree celcius higher temperture would be welcomed.
Thanks
