I need to book a decent hotel within a reasonable distance of le Mans for the 2019 race for the weekend of 15th and 16th June. Does anyone know of anywhere they can recommend please? |

Very little chance of getting into the Hotel de France, but well worth it if you can. If you can't, go back another time and stay there - lovely hotel owned by a BDC member and great touring in the area. |

Thanks for your replies. As feared, the H de F is booked. I am now looking further afield.

Places in good convenient hotels get booked way in advance, particularly by tour companies, who I suspect make block bookings before they actually have customers. It may be worth asking one of these companies, even if it means paying more.
I've stayed twice in what was the Cheval Rouge in Montoire sur le Loir, and found it was frequented by no less than the late David Llewellyn, who said he had a home locally. It's about 40 miles away which was a long treck in a 3 Litre every day, but we liked it enough to stay again. I chose it first time because it was the nearest still available which advertised secure parking.
But it seems to have changed hands and become the Cassini, and I don't know what it's like now. Montoire is a nice little town.
PS I've found the Logis de France website useful for finding country hotels. |

John Cobbing and I will stay in the Boule d'Or at Malicorne-sur-Sarthe. It's 21 miles from the circuit but a pretty easy run by vintage Bentley.
Seven star luxury, haut cuisine and expensive wines are all conspicuous by their absence. It's a pleasant village/small town and there are some posh restaurants if that's your thing. |
