I'm slightly embarrassed to be asking this..... how does the wheel trim come off? I'm assuming the octagonal Bentley engaved centre caps unscrew releasing the outer trim thereby revealing the wheel nuts.
Would it be safe to assume that if I am correct that the centre hubs are handed?
If the centre caps are threaded - I'll need to make a tool out of ally plate, I guess - unless anyone has a better idea......? |

In the boot there should be a hexagonal tool for just that job! Isn’t it odd how quite large tools go missing over the years. I can understand small tools get used for other things, but the hub cap spanner............. |

Al,
You see the cast alloy spanners on ebay. The threads are R H.
The wheel nuts are handed and note the little arrows, "OFF".
The mnemonic (Greek Goddess) is "R-R" remove to the rear. |

Thanks again gents - there was a hex spanner with the car but it's about 7/8" undersized - looks like it's for a domestic filter!

Hi Chris - I had a look at the spanner that came with the car, it was only 5/32" under sized - so 30 mins with a file opened that out and I now have the wheels off - so thank you but not currently required!
Would you have a front brake hyd cyl for a Mk VI/R Type? That I would be interested in!

Al,
2 nice cylinders. I invariably have them re-sleeved at Past Parts in Ipswich, as at 70 years old the bores are always a bit bell mouthed and scored/pitted. These look OK but you can never be sure of long term serviceability and P.P are very reasonable. They fit the stainless liners with Permabond to avoid hydraulic leaks as the centre pressure feed is drilled through it.
I was to have them sleeved for service but after the fiasco with the last heap of seized abandoned scrap, I now refuse to have anything to do with complete cars.I have too much axle and gearbox work for one man, anyway. |
