As a new and over-keen member I realise that what will become a long list of requests for information may lead to me being nick-named 'that blasted nuisance' but here goes. My lust for clarification continues.
Arnage tyres
255/50X18 Y Speed rating with a 102 Load Index.
I realise that Pirelli are the recommended tyre but I have a problem. I hate Pirelli tyres. I have only ever had two tyres 'blow out' in almost two million miles of driving (I used to drive very high annual mileages). Both tyres were Pirelli.
The first was on a year old Golf GTI which occurred at about 95mph on the A1 and led me to move between the two lanes about three times before managing to stop (with strangely dampened trousers) and the second at about 25mph in a full blown Audi Quatro which despite the low speed put me into the ditch.
In both cases the entire side wall had blown out. I realise that it is probably just bad luck but I think you would understand my reluctance to chance it again with the same brand.
My Bentley arrived with three Pirellis (including the spare) but also some total idiot has put two W rated Chinese rubbish on the front.
I need to replace them. Can anybody advise on replacement brands please?
Any assistance it very much appreciated.
Kind regards

Blow outs are a rare occurrence, the modern tyre has less horror stories these days. Most times it was a split tyre from something on the motorway surface that disapproved of you doing 95mph maybe.
All joking apart I would stick with whatever the original spec was for the car.
Myself I would prefer Pirelli over Michelin. But on my Brooklands SZ, I stay with Avon.
Keep asking questions, am in shielded lockdown I have plenty of spare time. |

Hello Philip
Thank you for your thoughts. When looking at rival tyres I did come across that well known performance tyre brand Windforce Racing Dragon. Sadly only V rated and surprisingly only an E rating for wet performance and E for noise. When I told my wife she replied that I often drive like the wind to which I replied that it was better than driving with wind. I would much prefer to fit Michelins (which are my favourite) or Avon. Bridgestone are available and I may go for them.
The other thing is that general reviews of the Aysemetrico (almost certainly spelt wrongly) are generally quite poor.
Any other thoughts welcome. Any experience on my other thread about replacement keys?
Kind regards

Yes regarding Keys, this seems to be a Main Dealership route for you, get your flexible friend at the ready. You might well have to attend at the garage so that they can re-set both keys. |
