Still no R type as yet. a few tatty imported ones at auction & some tad overpriced dealer stock ( most of which has been for sale for a very long time) seems the current availability. However no rush !! as Dickensian Mr Micawber said " I am imminently expecting something to turn up !!!) |

Good afternoon, I don't know if you are still looking for a Turbo R. If you are I have one that I would like to sell.
It was first registered on the 10/09/1985. It is Royal Blue with Magnolia upholstery. It has done just over 39,000 miles. There is an MOT which expires on the 19/11/2021.
Kind regards,
Roger Lord. |

There are two or three in the next Matthewsons auction in Thornton-Le- Dale, around the 19th I think.
There is a manual 1953 example, left for umpteen years, but in remarkably good condition apart from a missing front bumper and the radiator top hose is the wrong way round.
The inside looks better than most of the retrimmed ones.
The mileage is possibly genuine. |

Lack of bids, or vendors with an inflated idea of the cars’ value, Christopher? |

John,
I think that they are seen as too much of a liability.
There is always a mix of enthusiasts and dealers at these auctions. |

I concur, Seems that r types at auction are a mixed bag. A few “ money pit “ types not used for ages usually for a good reason & they want too much, those sold at no reserve are selling at about £10k to £ 17k . Nice manual or auto r types with money spent on them are selling at £22k to £26k incl fees . Private sales of decent cars are about £31 to £34k and probably realising about £26k to £29k max . Dealers cars asking £36k to £39k are just not selling at all. That’s the real world prices of today . As you all know buying the car is just the beginning of the ownership/ expense journey . Cars priced realistically sell those no so priced don’t & the amount of money spent/ invested is largely irrelevant, a humble Opel Monza with a restoration expenditure of over £100k with invoices was guided at a recent auction for £20k !!!! |

Well after all I managed to find an R type I like. Quite a rare bird but very useful on the rally field. It's a Harold Radford Countryman. Looking forward to fettling it running it in the summer. |

Well done and I'm sure there is a bit more joy to be had from a rare edition like the Radford.
FWIW, I agreed with your market summary above.
When I bought my MKVI in '91 a really good one was about £20K, so they are well behind inflation and any baloney about investment potential can be taken as a good indicator that the dealer has no idea what he's talking about (ditto corrosion problems being caused by "poor quality steel", whatever that is). |

As found on the 1957 Vauxhall Victor!
To be serious, very good luck to Rodney with his new purchase.
Cheers

Thank you John, The Radford should be OK as the previous owners spent a small or even a big fortune ££££ on it . So far put new plugs in & filter change ( fitted spin on conversion , it’s sooooo easy to do ) & change oil Morris 20w50 Golden Film. Just something I do when I first get a car . Still lots of bits & bobs to do. Happy motoring everyone . Rod |

I hope that you Loctited the top nut on, as the cartridge filter seal grabs hold, and you end up spinning the whole lot off. |
