Has anyone replaced the solid discs and calipers from a early SS1/T1 to the later vented discs and calipers?
I'm fairly certain I can get a bespoke setup from Wilwood. I have already worked with them to install vented discs on my MKVI. |

I have an early T1 and the braking is fine with the brake configuration as built. If it works, don't fix it. |

Why did the factory move to vented discs? |

Why did the factory move to the T2? Maybe I should change my gearbox to a three speed and increase the engine capacity to 6750cc. Why don't I strip out the Chippendale dash and get rid of all those horrible chrome knobs? I could also get rid of those chrome bumpers and fit a beautiful rubber monstrosity.
Or maybe I prefer to keep my car original. |

If the solid discs and calipers are worn, I personally don’t see why one should not consider fitting the later vented discs. When I rebuilt the brakes on my 3ltr I used finned drums, not original to 1924 but hopefully slightly less prone to fade when descending a tall alpine pass. |

I have owned this car for over 35 years. My local Bentley dealership has performed many factory-authorized recalls, recommended upgrades, and OEM performance add-ons.
Harvey-Bailey suspension kit.
T2 front shock absorber replacement with height ram delete.
Rear height ram delete with adjustable mechanical spacer.
Detroit-pot half-shaft replaced with Lobro CVJ driveshafts.
Front spoiler added for additional cooling.
Added Air/Conditioning.
Replaced old 4-speed Hydramatic with a true overdrive 4L80E from a SZ series.
Bentley Azure allow wheels.
None of these things detract from the styling of the T1 and make its use as a daily-driver much more enjoyable.
I would still being going to my Bentley dealer if it were not for their new policy of not servicing models that are not based on an Audi or Porsche. |
