Morning everyone

I am currently restoring a 1990 Bentley Turbo R but getting a hold of the correct tyres is proving to be a real problem (5 x Avon 255/65 VR 15 Turbospeed CR27). Ive tried www.vintagetyres.com & my local Bentley dealerships but to no avail.

I was just wondering if anyone else is experiencing similar supply problems, and whether anyone has found a possible alternative supply route?

One idea is to potentailly ship tyres from the USA. Has anyone had past experience of using this route?

Many thanks - Simon

Have you tried Longstone Tyres?

Unfortunately it is not just the 255/65R15 that is in short supply, the 235/65R16 has also been on back order for nearly a year. Other sizes such as the 255/60R16 and 255/55R17 are also feast and famine.

Some blame the pandemic which may be in part the cause, Tyre date codes is another reason, a manufacturer is not going to make a run of tyres if in 6 months the customers complain of being sold old date codes, even though they have been stored correctly and have not been inflated or stood with 2 tons on them, but this is what we get all the time as a tyre dealer. This will contribute to deleted sizes in the future and then where will car owners be? Bald tyres with even more ancient tyres.

Another possible cause is Avon was owned by Cooper Tire, they have recently been acquired by Goodyear Tire and they do not take prisoners, if it is not viable then it gets deleted. Profit and volume is their number 1 desire.

For the antique Classic market we stock and import a wide range of sizes from the early Bentley to a whitewall 17” for the Continental and Azure model

Have a look on our website, we do have the 255/65x15 Avon on order with Cooper Avon and were told 2-3 months on Friday, we enjoy priority ordering on the classic tyres so if you express an interest on our website you will be notified when new stock arrives.
