We located the 2 chassis numbers and confirmed this car is chassis number 289 and a 1923 TT 3 Liter.
Thank you! |

I think 289 was one of the cars which was thought may have been scrapped in India in the 1930’s, do please tell us a bit more about it. I find these discoveries fascinating. |

That much we know, there is also a record of the chassis being sent to A B Howletts, of Melbourne, in 1924 along with two others.
I wonder if it could possibly, but oh no, a recreation? |

I would,nt have thought that a 1923 car would have the front wheel brakings. |

Lt Col. Nicholson was at 602 Combined Workshops,Karachi, still in existence. The date looks like 1946.

I must be getting old and jaded because, rather than delight at the prospect of another Bentley emerging from hibernation, my reaction on seeing this thread was to wonder whether this another case of the identity of a scrapped car being applied to a collection of parts by subterfuge.
Can we have a recent photograph of the car please?
In the spirit of cooperation, I risked putting my back out and consulted the most recent version of "The Vintage Years" by Clare Hay which yielded the following;
Looks like the FWBs were fitted in March '24.
(The scan is sharp enough but the forum software insists on reducing the resolution. I've tried doubling the size of the image but the software still reduces it to half the width of the screen. Hence you may have to hold the ctrl key and press + a few times to be able to read it. Use ctrl 0 (ctrl zero) to resume normal service)

The pictures were taken within the last couple of months prior to shipping to Eric Voigt in Riverside California for the awakening |

I have just looked at the very comprehensive book “Vintage Bentleys in Australia “, there is no mention of 289 being there, Chris, where did you find that nugget of information? I’m sure the authors would be interested. |

Hi John,
Thanks for looking it up. The "nugget" came from an auction site, and their information was clearly incorrect. |

Hi Chris,
The book may not be comprehensive, the experts can get it wrong so I always keep an open mind on these things.
