The original lubricants as specified in the handbook have been superseded by "the factory" to some degree.
Engine use Comma or similar Classic 20/50.
Gearbox, use Comma gear oil or any SAE EP 80,or EP80/90.
They are all worn so it does not matter.
The woefully neglected rear axle, should be drained and filled to level with EP 80/90.
The "yellow metal" hysteria is just that.
Referring to full flow filter modifications, you should download from the RROCA site, the MK VI etc Service Bulletins.
You will note that there are two versions.
Scheme "A" for cars after the middle of the H series chassis, and one for earlier ones, Scheme "B".
Scheme "A" is fairly stright forward, and only requires a few new studs and a mount.
Scheme "B" is an engine out type, as half of the mod, is to redirect the oil pump outlet within the sump.
The one being advertised by F.S is the outer half of the Scheme "B" type, but the essential sump parts are missing.
The sump will also require extensive machining to fix a new stand pipe. |
