|
|
Hello,
on my BentleyArnage T 2002 I have now more or less a few months always a noise from the drive belt or the accessories which get driven by the belt. When you stand in front of the car the noise comes from the right side from my view. I started to change the water pump, after the A/C compressor, after the hydraulic pump, all tension pulley's and guiding pulley`s. Now the noise is still there but still disappears when the engine is warm.
I don`t know what I still could do. Is there any trick to fine adjust something or need the belt some time to run in? If we wax the belt the noise is gone, but after a while the wax goes away and noise comes back.
Thanks in advance for every tip
Regards

Just to make sure I understand what you have done so far..
It sounds like all the driven accessories and tensioner(s) are replaced now? Have you replaced the belt itself as well? |

Hello and thanks for the answer. Yes, sometimes it's better to think first and then start to write. The belt is still the old one which is maybe 6 months old but I have a new one but not installed. So let's see. I will change and then reply.

At only 6 months old, it's unlikely the belt is the problem, but good to start with all new, as perhaps the old belt has some wear pattern from an old pulley or something.
Look forward to your response. |

Why not invest in an aerosol can of drive belt dressing which you should be able to source from a decent hardware store. You can use the spray while the engine is ticking over and you should find the sound disappears. I had a similar problem on my Silver Cloud years ago and the dressing stopped the noise immediately. It’s basically a very fine powder which stops the belt from slipping in the drive grooves. |

Belt dressing can cause problems with EPDM material, and is usually specifically mentioned to not use by belt manufacturers.
(It may be some unique formulas are OK, but this is the general consensus)
Here is an article on how to track down cause of belt noise that may be useful

New drive belt installed. No noise anymore. Everything is fine. Really unbelievable. Maybe some fabrication tolerances. |
