Failed to lodge the clutch pedal down after reinstalling the engine in my 4 1/4. The clutch is stuck on. Using the engine to free it did not work. Squirted acetone on as much as we could see and it's been sitting for two days. Will try the engine and brakes to free, but what about a putty knife at the edge of the clutch between it and the flywheel, working all the way around it? |

My experience (although in the distant past) has been that heat usually does the job. Depress the clutch with a wedge or suitable pole, and just let the engine idle for a while, once the heat from the engine has worked its way back, the differential expansion etc., should fix it.

Thanks John. We've tried that twice with no success yet. We'll be trying again in the morning and I'll advise. |

Could the Borg & Beck clutch plate be stuck on the rusted coarse splines, the coil spring load is rather high?
The BDCL Green Book recommends the use of Diethyl Ether based "Easy Start", liberally sprayed into the clutch housing to penetrate the linings. |

While I can see that I should have posted this to the Derby site, I thank you for replying. WD40 with an extended pipe squirted into the Borg & Beck at open spots and waiting three days did the trick. Thanks again! |

Rocked the chassis whilst in gear and ran the engine against the brakes. The clutch finally became free and operates correctly. Thanks. |
